Cancer Holistic Therapy

'Holistic therapy gave me strength to go on'

A recent survey suggests a third of cancer patients are using complementary and alternative medicines.1

"Taking a holistic approach has given ... optimism and the strength to go on at an incredibly difficult time of ... life"2

The journey with cancer can be a lengthy, traumatic and arduous one. The treatment procedures available may be very damaging to the emotional well-being of the person. This is where complementary and alternative therapies have stepped in to offer holistic treatment that approaches the person and what is going on inside their head:

"Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) - also referred to as integrative medicine - includes a broad range of healing philosophies, approaches and therapies. These therapies are used in an effort to prevent illness, reduce stress, prevent or reduce side effects and symptoms, and control or cure disease."3

What is a complimentary therapy?

Complementary therapies such as aromatherapy massage, reflexology, counselling etc. are therapies which can be offered alongside the tradition medicinal treatment such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Of course it is important to remember that one cannot replace the other. They play a supportive role to each other.
